Long over-due update

Wow, once again a lot of time has gone by since I updated this blog. And once again, a lot has changed in my life. So much so that a bullet list is probably easiest: (all the photos are on my Instagram)

  • Evelin and I got married August 7th, 2021! We had a small ceremony with close family and friends here in Colombia, as well as my parents who were able to come down for the week. While August 7th is our date of our ceremony, September 3 was the date we were finally able to make the paperwork official here in Colombia.
  • We adopted another dog. Canela came to us on April 17th 2021 from a foundation. She was barely four months old and super scared the first few days, but Dante loves his new sister, and she's the terror of the house.
  • We returned to working on campus this school year and I have been teaching in person for the 2021-22 school year. There have been lots of struggles this year, making it the most difficult year of teaching I have faced. But the struggle has made me grow and I am a better teacher when compared to before the pandemic.
  • We've had several struggles trying to get Evelin a visa to visit Canada. Unfortunately, because we do not intend to live in Canada any time soon, we can only apply for the visitor visa, which has a very high rejection rate for the spouses of Canadians due to systemic abuse in the past. We'll be using a lawyer on the next attempt to hopefully have better chances of success.
  • I will be finished my MSc this April (less than five weeks from now!). It has been a long journey over the past three years, but it has finally come to a successful end.
  • We took our honeymoon in Mexico in November 2021, which was also the first time that I had left Colombia since starting at TCS in July 2019. I haven't been back to Canada in close to three years due to travel restrictions and visa problems.
  • (I'm sure I'm missing a dozen other important things that happened this past 2 years).
And most recently, Evelin and I have decided that we are ready to move on from Colombia and head off to a new country and new opportunities! I started my job search back in September 2021, and before Christmas break came around I had signed a two-year contract with ACST in Tunis, Tunisia. We are heading to north Africa, the Mediterranean, and a whole new series of adventures!

I will be teaching high school IB Physics, Chemistry, and a grade 10 science course. Evelin will be attending university online, studying translation and interpretation. By the end she should be fluent in four languages!

We will be taking off for our new home at the start of August 2022 and cannot wait!
