An Update, more to develop habit than to share anything amazing...

It's hard to believe that we're almost halfway through February already. Depending on how I look at the past 6 weeks, either nothing has changed or everything has changed, though I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between. It can always be hard to judge what changes have occurred because our point of view is always moving and the new perspective can make change appear where there has been none, and vice versa.

My aversions to creating my resume and cover letters have all but disappeared. Like all truly great things that happen in a school, collaboration led to the creation of something much better than I would ever have been able to produce on my own. The new perspectives offered by my colleagues gave me a much better picture of who I am as an educator, and how that connects to who I am as a person. I have already applied to several jobs this month, and have the first interview lined up for later this week.

Life has an interesting way of helping you make some truly amazing plans, and then just when you're ready to embark, show you a new path that looks like it offers everything you want and more. I've found myself down one of those alternative paths which takes me away from some of the short-term goals I had set but looks to offer me the type of future I've spent a lot of time thinking about. I'm excited and happy to be on the path I'm on and wouldn't change the decisions that led me here, even with the new challenges that now lie in my way. I have never been one to need concrete and detailed plans about my future, preferring to have a loose set of goals and allowing things to run the course they will. Now I look at plans that are completely dependant on what jobs I am offered between now and September. Not something I'd choose on my own, but since the choices I wouldn't change led me here I am happy, if a little intimidated, to move forward into this unknown.

Much of my time in the past couple weeks has now been taken up by working on my two Additional Qualification (AQ) courses. Librarianship - Part 1 and Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction - Part 1 (IICTI) are both helping develop skills that I look forward to using in my career. I kind of regret that I wasn't in a place to spread these two courses over two separate terms due to the workload, but I've always found ways to rise to the academic challenge before. I can only hope that I still feel that way when things wrap up in April!
